Sunken Roads: Three Generations After D-Day: The filmmakers behind this 2019 Official GI Film Festival San Diego selection are making the documentary available for a virtual preview before it’s theatrical release later this year. From June 4 – 21, join other WWII history fans, film lovers, and veterans across our nation for this special presentation. Don McCarthy was 20 years old on D-Day, when his infantry division landed on Omaha Beach in 1944. Don and the other veterans who survived D-Day will someday soon have passed into memory and legend. This realization inspires 20-year-old filmmaker Charlotte Juergens to join Don and seven other D-day vets on a journey to Omaha Beach for the 70th anniversary of the invasion The film offers a new, intergenerational perspective on D-Day, presenting the memories of 90-year-old combat veterans through the eyes of a 20-year-old woman. USS Indianapolis: The Final Chapter: In July 1945, the USS Indianapolis has just delivered “Little Boy” – the atomic bomb destined for Hiroshima – when she is sunk by a Japanese sub. The hit takes 300 sailors down with her, and the 900 survivors drift for four and a half days, battling the sun, thirst, sharks, and their own fear.
