The GI Film Festival San Diego wouldn’t be possible without our Advisory Committee, consisting of community leaders who have a passion for storytelling, public media, cinema, and supporting our military. This week, we are featuring some of their suggestions for impactful documentary films.

Last Flight Home: They bravely served their country during some of the most brutal battles of World World II so we could have the freedom we enjoy today. However, in an instant, they were lost to their families forever. For more than 60 years, the whereabouts of these fallen heroes remained a mystery, until now. WATCH.

Blood Diamonds: The human cost of the illicit global diamond trade is examined in this provocative documentary. Blood Diamonds looks to some of the world’s foremost experts for the facts of the history of the diamond trade, and goes to the heart of the matter. DISCLAIMER: Contains graphic images that may be disturbing for some viewers. WATCH.

Restrepo: This documentary film follows the 15-month deployment of a U.S. Army platoon serving in Korengal Valley, Afghanistan in 2007. Considered to be one of the most dangerous postings any American soldier could be asked to undertake, the documentary follows them during combat and shows the ever-present dangers of war. WATCH.
