What is the deadline and fee schedule?

February 28, 2019: Submissions open

March 28, 2019 EXTENDED TO APRIL 1, 2019 (NO FOOLIN!): Early Bird Deadline ($35 fee, Students $20)

April 25, 2019  EXTENDED TO APRIL 30, 2019: General Deadline ($45 fee, Students $30)

May 16, 2019  EXTENDED TO MAY 20, 2019: Late Submission Deadline ($55 fee, Students $40)

How can I submit my film?

GI Film Festival San Diego proudly accepts entries solely via FilmFreeway, the world’s best online submission platform. FilmFreeway offers free HD online screeners, unlimited video storage, digital press kits, and more. Click to submit with FilmFreeway.

 


Where do I send my film?

Submissions should be handled online via FilmFreeway.com and should include links to your film.


How long is a short film?

Films under 60 minutes are considered short films.


How long is a feature film?

Films 60 minutes and over are considered feature films.


What are the categories of films accepted?

We accept films of all categories including feature, documentary, short, narrative, professional and student.


What are the categories not accepted?

Screenplays, music videos, marketing videos, non-profit institutional videos or testimonials that are not independently produced, and PSAs.


How are the films selected for the festival?

Films submitted to the festival are reviewed by our selection team, looking for the best thematic and well produced films.


Do you accept rough cuts/works-in-progress?

Yes, we will review and consider rough cuts and works-in-progress. Please note on the submission what elements are still being worked on. If film is accepted into the festival, film must be complete by August 15, 2019, for inclusion.


Should I send a press kit?

If your film is selected into the festival, you will be asked to provide an electronic press kit (EPK).


Can I submit more than one film?

Yes, but each film must have its own submission form filled out and fee paid.


When will I find out if my film is accepted?

We notify filmmakers if they are accepted into the festival on approximately July 8, 2019.


What are the acceptable screening formats for your festival?

For the submission process we will accept Vimeo, Dropbox or Youtube links. Please provide all necessary passwords.

If selected for the festival, filmmakers will be required to provide an Apple Pro-Res 422, 1080p digital version of the film (or highest resolution available).  In addition, a DCP version is required. Send entries in sturdy, reusable containers or bubble wrap envelopes. Entries will be held through the festival. All drives used for film delivery will be returned. Please provide return shipping information.


Can I get confirmation that you received my submission?

Yes, your status will be confirmed via FilmFreeway.


What additional information do I need to provide for submission as a student/military filmmaker?

Please email festival organizer a photo or scan of the front of your school ID, military ID,  or proof of military service.


What additional information do I need to provide to enter the Local Film Showcase?

Please provide detail on which criteria you meet to be considered for the Local Film Showcase.


If my film is not chosen, may I speak with a member of the selection team for notes or feedback?

Unfortunately, due to time constraints and the large number of submissions, we are unable to give individual feedback.
