Let’s get together

The GI Film Festival San Diego is excited to return this event as an in-person, shared experience.  We are paying close attention to local and state public health orders and CDC recommendations.  We recognize that these recommendations change from time to time, based on local case positivity rates, hospitalization rates, and other factors.  In order to ensure the experience is safe for all, we are asking all filmmakers, attendees, volunteers, and staff to observe our COVID-19 protocols.

COVID-19 Protocols
  • Up-to-date vaccination or negative COVID-19 lab test result taken within 72 hours of your attendance will be required for entry into the festival. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a person is up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination if they have received all recommended doses in the primary series and one booster when eligible. Getting a second booster is not necessary to be considered up to date at this time. Both paper and digital vaccination cards and negative test results will be accepted. For faster checking and verification, the GI Film Festival San Diego encourages all attendees to utilize the Bindle app. Directions for how to use the Bindle app are located below.
  • Assess your health before you leave. If you observe any runny nose, cough, tickle/sore throat, fever, body aches or any other unusual symptoms, please stay home. We would be happy to exchange your ticket with a video-on-demand rental.
  • We encourage and recommend that you wear the facial covering while indoors — regardless of vaccine status. Since there is no food or drink permitted in the auditorium, we encourage all attendees to observe this recommendation. Exceptions will be made to panelists, moderators, and speakers participating in the films introduction or post-screening discussion.
  • When you are in the museum’s lobby or atrium, we encourage you to wear your facial covering whenever you are unable to maintain social distance. You may remove it while eating or drinking. You are welcome to exit the museum at any time for fresh air. Re-entry will be honored. If you would like a facial covering, one will be made available at our check-in table.
  • Festival staff will routinely clean and disinfect common areas throughout the festival run. Hand sanitizer will be available for all to use at the check-in table. Public restrooms, managed by the City of San Diego, are located outside and adjacent to the museum.
  • If you test COVID positive up to 14 days following the festival, please notify our team as soon as possible.

These protocols are in compliance with San Diego County public health guidance and in collaboration with the festival’s venue. They are not negotiable. Please do not harass our volunteers, staff, and partners regarding these policies. If you cannot observe these, we invite you to enjoy the films as a video-on-demand rental.

Thank you,
GI Film Festival San Diego

How to use Bindle, A Digital Verification App

Step One: download the Bindle app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Check out the video tutorial.
Step Two: create your Bindle Wallet by following the on-screen prompts. Check out the video tutorial.
Step Three: upload your certificates (vaccination records or negative test results).

Step Four: create your entry pass by clicking on the “Create Entry Pass” from inside the Bindle app. Search for SDSU and choose between the two options: SDSU Smart Health Card or SDSU – Photo Uploaded, based on how you provided your documents. Once you select the option that matches you, click “Create Entry Pass” and Bindle will check if your certificates match the criteria. If you pass, you’ll see an entry pass that includes the SDSU logo, your selfie, a green check mark and a QR Code. Show this when you arrive. Check out the video tutorial to create your SDSU entry passNOTE: The GI Film Festival San Diego is organized and produced by KPBS, which is a public media service of San Diego State University.

Verification Option for non-Bindle users

We will also accept paper credentials, such as a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) vaccine card or a printed negative COVID-19 laboratory test result. To provide printed proof of vaccination or a test you must present the printed copy or a photo of the information on your phone or other electronic device on event day. Guests 18 and over will also need to provide a matching photo ID with their proof of vaccination or negative test results.
