Director's Bio
Jason Zuidema is a U.S. Navy veteran, two-time Emmy Award winner, photojournalist, cinematographer and an editor. He served as a journalist in the Navy for five years, traveling the world and telling military stories through video. This set him up for the civilian world of photojournalism, shooting and editing breaking news for Fox 5 San Diego, before deciding to go back to school and finish his degree in Digital Video Production, where he made his first short film: “Coming Out to Grandma.” He is out to the world, except his grandparents. The film is based on his real life grandma, and how things might go if he tells her. Now, Jason is determined to continue to learn all aspects of filmmaking, by working on as many sets as possible in a variety of positions. He has shot six shorts since “Grandma” and he’s almost finished writing his next one, which is very personal and top secret.

From Baghdad to The Bay follows the epic journey of Ghazwan Alsharif, an Iraqi refugee and former translator for the U.S. military. Wrongfully accused of being a double agent, tortured by the U.S. military, and ostracized from family and country, we follow Ghazwan as he struggles to rebuild his life in the United States while coming out as an openly gay activist.Preceded by: Coming Out to Grandma
