Submissions for the 2026 Festival Now Open
June 26, 2025

Independent filmmakers: we’re inviting you to submit your military-veteran connected film now, when the entry fees are their lowest. Fees will increase by $10 for non-student entries in October.
Films must be completed after January 1, 2023 and meet one of two additional requirements:
- Be a military-themed story
- Prominently feature service members or veterans in above-the-line roles, such as director, writer, producer or principal actor
Original and creative stories that amplify the experiences of service members, veterans and their families is what our festival is all about. We love to showcase diverse experiences, perspectives and artistic styles. Over the history of GIFFSD, we’ve screened animations, period dramas, romances, Westerns, comedies, horror and documentaries. Help us showcase impactful and creative films with your submission to the 2026 GI Film Festival.
Films of all lengths and genres that originate in the U.S., internationally or in San Diego are welcome. Student, emerging and professional filmmakers are eligible to submit. All submissions must go through FilmFreeway. See official rules for details.
