Our festival is currently accepting submissions for the 2026 festival. We welcome original films that highlight military and veteran-connected stories, voices and perspectives. Over our 10-year history, we’ve screened animations, period dramas, romances, Westerns, comedies, horror and documentaries. All entries must be completed after January 1, 2023 and meet certain requirements.

About GIFFSD

The GI Film Festival San Diego is a multi-day showcase of films for, by, and about military and veteran experiences. Films featured in the festival reveal the struggles, triumphs, and experiences of service members and veterans. The festival also provides veterans and service members with an opportunity to further their creative skills.

The 2026 event takes place May 6-8 in San Diego, during Military Appreciation Month.  All community members, civilians, family, allies, service members, veterans and film lovers are welcome to catch a film, be inspired, and build community.

The festival is organized by KPBS in partnership with the Film Consortium San DiegoThe GI Film Festival San Diego is a member of the San Diego Veterans Coalition and the San Diego Military Family Collaborative.

The Film Consortium San Diego is a social venture that stimulates film and television production in the region and increases networking, employment, education, funding and distribution opportunities in film, television and new media.
