Description

Originally created as a ‘spirit video’ for the 2016 Army vs. Navy Football Game, “Child‘s Play” takes a fun jab at the Naval Academy and the Navy at large by claiming that ‘kids play soldier, not sailor,’ making its point by encapsulating the imagination and thrill children experience while playing soldier.

Between the combat choreography executed by the cadets of the Small Unit Tactics Club, the training equipment facilitation by the soldiers and officers of the Department of Military Instruction, the children actors and voice overs provided by military families on post.

The original soundtrack arranged by SSG Noah Taylor of the USMA Band, and the direction, filming, and editing by Cadet Austin Lachance. All contributing personnel to this project were active duty military.

Filmmaker scheduled to attend.

Director's Bio

Born and raised at West Point as an army brat, Austin has always been immersed in the military lifestyle. Originally “raised’ as a mechanical engineer, Austin’s creativity took the form of novel and elaborate design work. It wasn’t until sophomore year as a cadet at West Point that he would happen upon a talent and passion for film. Now a senior, Austin has spent the past three years making a name for himself at the Academy finding new ways to proliferate cadet-produced film projects in hopes of telling the story of the Corps of Cadets. Austin has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, branch Aviation from West Point and serves as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. After his career in the army, he intends to enter the industry and pursue his passion for film.
